Success Story
June 1999
Dutch Reformed Church
Newburgh, New York
ODutch Reformed Churchne of the finest Greek Revival structures in the United States, this beautiful church was designed by the important 19th century American architect, Alexander J. Davis.

With local dignitaries, the First Lady addressed a crowd of thousands in front of the Dutch Reformed Church in Newburgh, New York, on July 14, 1998. Subsequent to the First Lady's Save America's Treasures visit, it was selected for federal grant funding as a pilot planning project through the National Park Service under the Hudson Valley Heritage Area Initiative. Another result of the awareness raised by the visit is the formation of an ad hoc committee by the City of Newburgh to examine church preservation and reuse opportunities. Meanwhile, critical, temporary, structural stabilization work has been completed to prevent the collapse of the church's second floor gallery.
